Damian Lane wins Group One in Japan

Damian Lane‘s flying start in Japan hit a new peak on Sunday, when he rode Normcore ($ 9.40) to victory in the Group One Victoria Mile at Tokyo.

Lane finished the day with a treble, taking his weekend tally of winners to seven, after riding a quartet at Tokyo on Saturday.

The Western Australian, who has made his mark riding in Melbourne, claimed both feature Group races across Saturday and Sunday, as he rode Godolphin-raced colt Tower Of London to a Group Two win on Saturday before his G1 win on Sunday.

Normcore was on the fifth line of betting, and held out fellow four-year-old “filly” – as they call them locally at that age – Primo Scene ($ 6.40) by a neck.

Six-year-old mare Crocosmia ($ 30.80) was a further half-length behind in third, while Lucky Lilac ($ 4.30) wasn’t far away in fourth, just a nose outside the placings.
